Adding Widgets
Redesigning a clunky widget configuration flow
Outcome
Transformed a frustrating widget flow into a seamless one that helped users tap into the platform's full power
Problem
DTP offered a powerful array of widgets and settings, but the existing flow for adding them to a dashboard was clunky and confusing. Users struggled to understand the full range of options, limiting how much value they could get from the product. The challenge was to make adding widgets intuitive, visually clear, and efficient.
Process
- 1
Ran a heuristic evaluation of the existing flow to pinpoint key usability issues
- 2
Conducted internal interviews with users to understand their behavior and mental models around the current system
- 3
Created rough designs and reviewed them with stakeholders to build alignment
- 4
Built wireframes and a high-fidelity interactive prototype to validate the new design and secure stakeholder buy-in before development
Result
The redesigned "Add Widget" flow helped users easily find and add widgets while understanding the platform's full power. It directly addressed the original challenge — making it simpler for users to build the dashboards they needed to surface valuable insights.
